LOCAL HISTORY
Beaver Pond Sporting Club is located in historic Snow Camp, NC in Southern Alamance County. It’s beginning dates to the mid 1700’s with the initial establishment of the monthly meeting of friends (Quakers) located on the north bank of the Cane Creek. The meeting place served the community to post notices of interest, announce marriages, settle disputes, and provide fellowship.
The settlement that came to be known as Snow Camp , was born of a legend that told of a group of Pennsylvania hunters. They had discovered bountiful game in the area and made camp near the present town during a heavy snowfall. |
The story, as recounted in local publications, was that the snow was two to three feet deep. They cut trees for firewood supposedly at the level of the snow. Upon returning to the site the next year, this same group of hunters saw the tall stumps and exclaimed. “This is where we camped in the snow.” From then on, those living there called their settlement Snow Camp.
We look forward at Beaver Pond to re-establishing the recognition of Snow Camp as an area of fine bird hunting, just like it was 250 years ago. |

throughout the day’s hunting experience. In part of the building, you will find the

Located in the other side of the facility, divided by a 20’ wide breezeway, is our
office/clubhouse with wood stove and lounge area to provide members and guest

porch stretches the length of the building with comfortable rocking chairs next to
l a beautiful wooded area. The rock fire-pit is great for outdoor cooking or a
relaxing campfire.
